League City, Texas

League City’s first resident, George W. Butler, arrived in 1873 from Louisiana and settled at the junction of Chigger Bayou and Clear Creek. The area was known as Clear Creek or Butlers Ranch until J. C. League acquired the land from a man named Muldoon on his entering the priesthood. League laid out his town site on Galveston, Houston, and Henderson Railroad, already established in the area. Butler was the postmaster at the time and a small feud followed. The name was changed several times, alternating between Clear Creek and the new League City. In the end, the name League City won.

In the League City census of of 2007, there were 68,178 people. The median income for a household in League City was $78,250 and the median income for a family was $88,338 according to a 2007 estimate.

Situated in Galveson County, League City presents a great place to live with easy access to both downtown Houston as well as Galveston. It is not uncommon for families who work in both Galveston and Houston to choose to call League City home. The majority of League City is served by the Clear Creek Independent School District while a small section is served by Dickinson ISD.
